CARELESS Dog Training

Over the years, I have watched a LOT of dog videos on youtube. And I have gone to a lot of dog demonstrations. It really surprised me just how terrible they are. And I don't just mean the poor quality as in resolution and shaky video. I mean absolutely TERRIBLE scenarios, handling, and decoy work! They are VERY careless. Unaware of their surroundings. There are people WAY to close to the dogs and decoys. VERY DANGEROUS! The decoys swing the dog in a huge circle, not good for the dogs teeth, some came off. Now imagine if he swung the dog INTO the crowd????? TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THE DOGS & PEOPLE'S SAFETY. But then, the dogs are so POORLY trained, that they aren't a danger EVEN to the bad guy!
It made NO sense at all what they were trying to show in their videos and most of the time I just couldn't figure out just what they were trying to show. Maybe because they have NO idea what a REAL protection dog is suppose to do? The handlers had NO idea how to handle a dog. Most were totally confused as though someone just grabbed them off the sidewalk to make a quick video. They couldn't control the lead, it would get tangled up round the dog. Another risk of injury to the dog. Most decoys, and I use the term loosely, behaved as though they were also grabbed off the sidewalk with the handlers. Most were jamming the dogs, which injures the poor dogs neck, taking bites on the wrist (which show they are not good at catching dogs) and is VERY dangerous to the decoy. Just shaking and flipping the dog around. Screaming, yelling, weird unrealistic noises. It was embarrassing to listen too. I can't believe they didn't feel the same way. I guess they weren't taught anything better. Very VERY sad. A lot of the poor dogs looked afraid, confused not sure what they were suppose to do either. Bitting haphazardly, all over the place, even after they outed or were chocked or pulled off the decoy. The handler obviously had no control of the dog.
Remember, ANYONE can slap together a video, ANYONE! It appears as though they are trying to show anyone who will watch that they are somebody. "Look at me Look at me!!!!" This shows their insecurity. Not only is that TERRIBLE, it's dangerous for those who are looking to have their dogs trained for protection! Some poor innocent person may be bitten because of these unresponsible people!
Because of the down right CRAPPY, careless videos, I decided I would take the time and put some of my training videos up. Now, mine are not the only videos out there that will show the correct way a video demo and/or scenarios should be performed. There are also other videos from good trainers. But they are hard to find amongst all the crappy ones. Sometimes you'll see one or two decent videos and the rest are just terrible. It reminds me of something my mother use to say: "Even a Broken Clock is Correct Twice a Day." So just because one or two videos "might" look good, it doesn't mean the rest of what the so called trainer is doing is right or good. There are a LOT of PRETEND trainers!!!
For good videos: Look at WHERE the spectators are during the video or demo. Are they on the field walking around? Is anyone within just a few feet of the dog as it runs to bite the decoy? Could a CHILD run out to pet the dog because it looks like a dog he knows? You MUST be aware of your surroundings! Spectators should be behind a barrier or clearly out of the way of the exercise. What about leashes and collars on the dog? Do they get tangled around the dog presenting a dangerous hazard for the dog where it may get injured? This shows poor handling skills. If the handler sends the dog with a leash, it should be short enough NOT to get tangled around the dogs legs.
SLOPPY practices are not something GOOD trainers do! It's obvious that 95% of the videos show just how sloppy, careless and just down right STUPID people can be when it comes to training protection dogs. Most have no REAL life training experience though they claim their training is "real life". DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE PRETEND TRAINERS! Return to the Protection Page
